Iraq Advances Oil and Gas Production
    • October 14, 2025

Iraq's Ministry of Oil has announced an increase in daily production at the Nasiriyah oil field to 80,000 barrels.   Concurrently, Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani disclosed that the associated gas investment rate has risen significantly to 74%, up from 53%. This progress is marked by the launch of the Basra NGL 1 and NGL 2 projects, each with a planned capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day.   The Ministry has approved several strategic gas projects, highlighting significant advances in the flagship Basra Gas Company—a joint venture between South Gas Company (51%) and Shell and Mitsubishi (49%).   As a top global oil producer, Iraq continues to modernize its sector by boosting gas capture, reducing flaring, and leveraging international partnerships to enhance production and infrastructure.

China's Subsea Oil & Gas Pipeline Network Surpasses 10,000-km Milestone
    • September 28, 2025

On September 28, as the offshore pipelaying vessel "Binhai 109" laid the final pipe termination head in the southern waters of the Bohai Sea, China's total length of subsea oil and gas pipelines surpassed 10,000 kilometers, ranking among the top in the world.   This year, China has achieved multiple breakthroughs in subsea pipeline construction. In the Yingge Sea area off Hainan Island, two subsea pipelines supporting the Dongfang 13-3 block development project were successfully put into operation, achieving interconnection of the subsea pipeline network around Hainan Island. In the Bohai Bay, China's largest offshore crude oil production base, the country's most dense subsea pipeline network has been established, with the total length of subsea oil and gas pipelines exceeding 3,200 kilometers.   Song Yanlei, Deputy Manager of the Subsea Pipeline Center at CNOOC Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd.: With the commissioning of this batch of pipelines in the southern Bohai Sea, the density of the Bohai pipeline network has reached over 4 kilometers of pipeline length per 100 square kilometers of sea area.   To date, China has built nearly 200 kilometers of new subsea oil and gas pipelines this year. According to plans, by 2030, the total length of China's subsea pipelines is expected to exceed 13,000 kilometers, further enhancing the density of the marine energy transportation network. Against the backdrop of the transition to new energy, these pipelines also have the potential to be compatible with the transportation of clean energy sources such as hydrogen and shale gas, providing flexible support for the optimization of the energy structure.

  • ExxonMobil: Oil and Gas to Remain 55% of Energy Mix in 2050 Amid Growing Demand
ExxonMobil: Oil and Gas to Remain 55% of Energy Mix in 2050 Amid Growing Demand
    • September 19, 2025

(Bloomberg) — ExxonMobil is reinforcing its long-term commitment to expanding fossil fuel production, anticipating that global demand will “remain largely unchanged” through 2050. According to Dan Ammann, president of Exxon’s upstream division, the energy giant is focused on sustained investment in oil and gas projects that it expects to remain essential for decades, rather than reacting to short-term trends. He spoke at the BloombergNEF “Barrel of Tomorrow in the Age of AI” conference in Houston on Thursday. Exxon aims to double its LNG sales by 2030 and is channeling significant investment into oil developments in Guyana and the Permian Basin. “We take a long-term view based on the fundamentals, and we invest behind that, Ammann said. “Our long-term view of the global energy equation is that the demand for energy is going to continue to grow.” Exxon has maintained its fossil-fuel-centered approach despite international climate objectives. Ammann said this strategy has served it well compared with other oil companies that pivoted to renewable energy only to come back to oil and gas when the returns were lacking.  “We saw some oil and gas companies, five, six, seven years ago say they were going to reduce production 40% by 2030,” he said. “There was literally no math you could do to suggest that was a good idea.” In its Energy Outlook report released last month, ExxonMobil noted that despite significant growth in low-carbon energy sources, oil and natural gas will still account for about 55% of the global energy mix by 2050. This is primarily due to a substantial increase in overall energy demand. The company stated that while oil demand is expected to level off around 2030, natural gas will fill the energy gap. “We see material growth on the gas side,” Ammann said. Exxon is nearing the startup of its Golden Pass LNG terminal, a joint project with QatarEnergy located on the Texas Gulf Coast, with operations expected to begin in the coming months. The company also plans to finalize investment choices for major ventures in Mozambique and Papua New Guinea by the end of 2026.
