Rod wiper seals are installed in the sealing configurations of hydraulic cylinders to prevent contaminants such as dirt, dust and moisture from entering the cylinder as they retract back into the system.
When the equipment is stationary (stationary, the connecting rod has no reciprocating motion) and in use (dynamic, reciprocating connecting rod), the hydraulic pu wiper seals remain in contact with the seal of the piston rod, and the tolerance of the connecting rod diameter is determined by the connecting rod seal. If there is no wiper seal, the retracted piston rod may deliver pollutants to the cylinder.
The external static seal of the wiper seal in the housing is also important to prevent moisture or particles from entering the outside of the wiper seal.
